In very simple terms, Malaysia is:
a. A youthful nation (over a third are below 25)
b. Increasingly urbanising (three quarters of the population) and
c. Increasingly educated (more than a tenth of the total population and rising, though much less than Singapore and South Korea, with over a third of their population holding undergraduate degrees).
Which means, directionally speaking, Malaysians are growing up, and better understanding the world around them.
So why in heavens name do politicians still use race-based politics to win elections?
On the basis of IMAN Research’s work, minority youths are really quite sick of this tactic.
Which then begs the question: do politicians really care what the youth really think? Or are they so oblivious and out of touch that their tactics remain rooted in the past?
Discuss.
Thanks to IMAN Research for the thought provoking research and findings.
Do have a listen.
Some of the stories are heart-rending. But necessary nonetheless, for the teething pains this young nation is going through in her path to maturity.
