From Dirt-Poor to Philanthropy: Kuan ‘Uncle Kentang’ Chee Heng
Imagine being so poor you drink tap water to fill your stomach during recess time. Or seeing your mother give her body to the sundry shop owner in return for rice. Or the smell of your dead father as he decomposes in the living room because the family cannot afford a casket.
How does that perspective compare to so many of us who spend all our time chasing money or complaining that we don’t have enough?
So when I heard Kuan Chee Heng (aka ‘Uncle Kentang’) talk to Asha Gill on LiteFM last week I found him on the Interweb and was grateful that he agreed to an impromptu interview at Ben’s Jalan Batai.
Kuan’s story offers much-needed context in a world blind-drunk with excess, social media and greed.
