My Love Affair With YouTube

My love affair with YouTube began at roughly the same time as I began to intensely dislike Astro.

They (not YouTube) had an unethical way of doing business.
Even after I had cancelled my subscription (on the phone in those days), a call which was preceded by a robot which said, ’this call will be recorded for quality and training purposes…’ , they continued to deduct my credit card for months after that.
Not to mention the old re-runs and poor transmission during thunderstorms, all of which I endured so I could watch my beloved Manchester United play on the weekend.

Emerging at that time was this platform which offered an endless variety of content for free.
But the killer was that anyone could become a broadcaster themselves.
This whole idea of becoming a ‘content creator’ was a novel one.

I had come from an era where you had to convince a room full of people to publish your content, whether written or visual.
And now here was this thing, which not only offered you a shopfront to the world, but they gave it to you for free AND they would pay you a share of their ad revenue if enough people liked what you showed.

It was mind-blowing.
Anyway, I wanted to share a video which I produced with my first cameraman from Do More’s past.

Inspired by the vintage car channel Petrolicious, Josh Wong and I shot and produced a series of videos for Lim Tayar, featuring my MX5 NA, Mrs Daniel Sherman Fernandez’s Golf GTi, Sreekant Pillai‘s Beetle and Marcus Foo’s Mercedes W115.

This episode is the one that featured my MX5.
Damn I looked young in those days.
